![]() !! NEW !! INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN Following some feedback, we've hopefully improved our Plan B.
We're going to meet at 4 p.m. at Namco Funscape, County Hall, Westminster Bridge Road Riverside Buildings, London, SE1 7PB. At 4, we'll be just inside the entrance. If you're arriving later--give us a buzz and we'll try to tell you where we are (probably near the bar). After some socialising at the bar, with the video games and pool, and a go on the dodgems, we'll grab some of the trashy, fattening food and more beers. Later, we'll move on to a nearby pub via some more fast food outlets. We can't do a picnic, but we can still do food. Leave a message here (or comment if you're not Grommr XL) if you need my mobile number. All welcome, as usual ;-)
======================================== !! INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN INVOKED !! Unfortunately, the heatwave came a bit too early for us and didn't stick around long enough. It's forecast to piss down on Saturday so we're having to invoke the inclement weather plan. Do not go shopping for picnic food (or do, but pig out on it at home during the day)!
========================================= THE FOLLOWING DETAILS NO LONGER APPLY (until next year)
A fat-focussed picnic in London: the London Fat-nic! (see what I did there?!)
We're aiming to repeat and better last year's successful London picnic GrommOff this summer on Saturday, 27 July. Hopefully, we'll still be having good weather by then but we'll just have to cross our fingers.
The focus of this GrommOff will unashamedly be on food and eating. Gainers are encouraged to bring as much food as they'd like to shovel away, encouragers to bring even more (maintainers might like to consider falling off the wagon for the day) -- we're going to be in the park for a good few hours. Everyone is encouraged to bring the usual London GrommOff friendliness. We try our best to include everyone and most people usually enjoy the events.
You will also need a mat or blanket to sit on etc. (the usual picnic paraphernalia). If you like to look down on everyone, by all means bring a chair but I know many of us prefer eating Roman style (http://gb.fotolibra.com/images/previews/32490-cartoon-roman-soldier-eating-grapes.jpeg).
AFTERWARDS: We will pack up around 7 p.m. This will allow guys who have to leave us then to travel home to do so without missing any of the event itself. But there's always a few who want to make a night of it (and turn up unencumbered with picnic stuff). If you'd be keen to continue, please let us know in comments so we can gauge interest.
LOCATION: We have not yet determined exactly where in the park we will be meeting. The spot will balance accessibility (some of us don't like walking far) and the best degree of seclusion possible in a public park. This will be updated nearer the time. But here is some general information for those unfamiliar with this area of London:

CONTINGENCY PLANNING FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER: A decision will be taken on Thursday, 25 July in the evening about whether to cancel the event if inclement weather is forecast for the Saturday. This should help anyone planning on preparing or buying food on the Friday. If we can think of an indoor alternative, we will post details of it at the same time. |
